My lewe in Suid Afrika

Where we live

Wesley and I live now for almost two years in Bellville, a Northern Suburb of Cape- Town. It is 20 minutes away from the city centre. It is a good place to live for us, because it is central. We live around the corner of a Somalian neighborhood, strong believers of the Islamic faith. Last year we helped a friend of Somalia on his feet after he gave his heart to Jesus. He was almost killed by his community. The area is looking sometimes a little messy. Lots of small shops, cheap food btw!

We live in a separate entrence, so our house is connected to the main house. But we have an own security gate, an own yard. Our place is quite big. The most of you will never get a chance to visit our place. That's why I will give you an impression of our house, including our cute pets!

The Country

South Africa is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The first time I came here in 2009, I was in love. What a beauty. I love the diversity of South Africa in culture. I love the wideness... you can travel for hours through the middle of nowhere. There are different climates and landscapes every 100 KM. The country has a rich history. The food is great. What a great privilege to live here, and to 'suffer' here as a missionary for Jesus!

Personally I think Cape Town is the best city! We have everything here! Sunny beaches, impressing mountains, wildlife, vineyards where you can taste the best wine, beautiful nature and even 'pikkewyne'! Regular I realize: what a privilige is it to live here! If you want to come and visit me, you arme MORE than welcome. I am sure Wesley don't mind to organise a Braai (South African BBQ with proper meat) for you!

Ja, this is one side of Cape Town. There is also another side. The side of poverty, townships stretching for kilometers, crime and hopelessness. For me it is even a 'groter voorreg' I can build up beautiful relationships with the people living in these areas.

Next to work, we are part of a prophetic church, where we also join a cell group. Sometimes we are going to Deep River.
I like to spend time with friends, I have a few friends, who are living close by and a few friends who I see so now and then. At home we enjoy watching series (tip: 12 monkeys!) and we enjoy our daily portion of an Afrikaans soapie: 'Sewende Laan. I use often examples of this soap in my classes.
I enjoy painting, playing my guitar, reading and sometimes watch a movie. Wesley watches a lot of movies and plays computer games. I love winter, when we make a nice fire in our braai, so we can have romantic evenings.
Sometimes we go out. Monday is the best day to go to Spur (not too often!) On that day you can eat 2 burgers with chips and onion-rings for the price of one. Tuesday is the best day to go to the cinema because the movies are half price.
We try to get some exercise as well. Wesley enjoys cycling, I often walk. We like to be in nature together, like having a short hike on a mountain, or having a pick-nick between the ducks.
In summer I love to go the beach! I get better with using sun block.
Wes travels by car,  I travel by train and by scooter, I easily drive 100 km per hour between the cars. So I am actually quite brave!
